I pray this reaches you in the best of health and iman.
UTSC MSA is proud to announce MSA and Reviving the Islamic Spirit (RIS) Partnership. Reviving the Islamic Spirit is an annual conference that takes place in Downtown, Toronto. It attracts about 10,000 attendees from all over the globe and invites highly-esteemed and knowledgeable scholars from Canada, USA, UK, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Yemen, Pakistan, India and more. RIS will take place in Metro Toronto Convention Centre from December 25-27th this year inshAllah.
Regular ticket prices are $45 before December 6th, and $55 after December 10th. However, as part of MSA and RIS Partnership, tickets will be $40 before and $50 after for MSA members. Please note that there’s a limit of one ticket per student. Regular tickets for family members may also be purchased but at regular prices.
Please contact Br.Adam Abdul-Kafi (for brothers) and Sr.Humaira Saleem (for sisters) for tickets through the MSA email account; simply leave a comment at the bottom and one of the representatives will set a time and place to meet with you and provide you the tickets.

Fast on 9th of Dhul Hijjah and get Free Iftaar!
Assalaamu Alaikum dear MSA Members,
You are probably familiar with the last ten nights of Ramadan, and how virtuous good deeds are in those nights, right? Great!
Well, let me introduce you to 10 days that are MORE virtuous, yet many people are not aware of it. It’s the first ten days of the Islamic calendar month of Dhul-Hijjah (which starts on Nov.18 – that is TOMORROW!)
According to the Prophet, sal Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, who said, “There is no day more honorable in Allah 
’s sight and no acts more beloved therein to Allah than those in these ten days (of Dhul-Hijjah)”
In these first 10 days of the Month of DhulHijjah we find:
…the 9th day is the day of Arafah,
…and the 10th day is Eid.
AND SO, the MSA is offering a FREE IFTAR on Thursday, November 26th, 2009! @ 4:45pm, Room TBA.
What sort of extra good deeds can you do?
1. Fasting these 10 days
2. Giving more charity during these 10 days
3. Say the “Eid” Takbeers loudly wherever you go. (Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Laa ilaaha illa Allah . Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Walillaahil hamd.)
4. Try to pray more prayers in the Masjid
5. Increase ties of kinship (visit family, say kind words to them, etc.)
6. Perform more voluntary prayers at home
7. Read more Quran, contemplating the meanings
8. Do more Dhikr
9. Ask for forgiveness more frequently
Ibn ‘Abbas reports that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these days [meaning the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah].” The companions asked, “O Messenger of Allaah, not even jihad in the way of Allaah?” He said, “Not even jihad, except for the man who puts his life and wealth in danger [for Allaah's sake] and returns with neither of them.”
[This is related by the group except Muslim and an-Nasa'i]
May Allah (swt) enable you to make the most out of these ten days InshAllah.

Assalaamu Alaikum Dear MSA Members,
This is just an announcement regarding the By-Election for the position of Amir (President).
As per the constitution (which can be found on the website), the individual who applied for the position of Amir was not eligible, i.e. he did not have the one year MSA executive experience. However, in cases where there are no eligible applicants, the previous year’s executives along with current executives can approve of this applicant so he/she can run in the elections. As a result, this applicant has been approved and may run in the elections.
The Presidency By-Elections will inshAllah take place on Thursday, November 26th, 2009 from 4-6pm. Location TBA.
